The Circus Maximus, with its 621 metres in lenght and 118 metres in width, was the largest stadium in Rome used for public games and mass entertainment at the time of Roman Empire.

It could host about 270.000 people, which was a quarter of the total population of Rome, and was primarily used for chariot racing, one of the most popular sport at that time.
Chariot racing was dangerous but of great impact for the viewers, and always generated strong enthusiasm among the audience.

It was erected in the 2nd century BC and rebuilt several times in the following centuries, due to the fires in which it was destroyed.

Nowadays the Circus Maximus occasionally hosts concerts and events of large dimension. The Italian World Cup victory celebrations in 2006 were hold there, as well as the British rock band Genesis concert an year later.

Rome has more than two thousands and a half years of history and it is impossible to explore them all, but our Imperial Rome tour aims to go at leats through the most significant stages.

The tour starts at the Basilica of San Pietro in Vincoli, famous for being home of the Moses, Michelangelo’s masterpiece. Then we will visit the Colosseum, the very symbol of Rome, and greatest example of the Imperial architecture.
Our Imperial Rome tour will continue towards the Roman Forum, the most notable archeological site in Rome, once economical, judicial and business centre of Rome. Some of the many ancient ruins you may admire in the Roman Forum are: the Temple of Vespasian and Titus, Arch of Septimius Severus, Curia, Basilica Julia, Temple of Caesar.
Afterwards, you will be taken to the Capitoline Hill, designed by Michelangelo during the Renaissance. The Palaces overlooking the square are home to the Capitoline Museums.

The Imperial Rome Tour will end in the very heart of the historical centre of Rome, and more precisely at Piazza Venezia, dominated by the Vittoriano, the national monument of Victor Emmanuel II erected in 1935.
